Not so any more with the availability of Downcast.

Downcast iOS App

Q: So what is downcast?

Downcast is an app for your iPad and iPhone which enables you to listen, find, download and watch podcasts on the go.

Q: So why is downcast good? 

It solves the problem of having to go back to iTunes to sync and download the latests casts from your favourite people which is a great time save and really should of been this way from the start.

Q: Sounds good how have you got on with it?

Well I’ve found it very simple and the built in directory has opened up some new entries I hadn’t found previously not to mention my old favs. I’m off to Paris next month so its great to be able to sit in a coffee shop find, download and listen to a podcast like Coffee Break French.

Q: Is it easy to use?

Sure. The app feels like a nicely thought through design which offers a menu of tools to play back those that you’ve already downloaded as well as access more if you want to download others. In all its contained from one simple scrollable screen allowing you to easily use whilst traveling on the train, bus or hooked up to the stereo. Its definitely worth the £1.49.

Oh OK perhaps not, since I have absolutely nothing to complain about really. But I would add that perhaps it would be very nice if someone in Apple could try using this interface to traverse massive playlists? With all that spare space around the panel surely it would be trivial to make the selection window bigger?
